About
Many behaviours that appear challenging, unexpected, or confusing may be influenced by sensory experiences. Every child processes sensory information differently, and sensory needs can have a significant impact on emotions, regulation, participation, communication, and behaviour. When sensory needs are not being met, or when a child is experiencing sensory overload, behaviour may be a way of communicating discomfort, stress, overwhelm, or a need for sensory input. This snapshot encourages us to look beyond the behaviour itself and consider how sensory experiences may be influencing what we are seeing. Who Is This Resource For? This resource is designed for parents, caregivers, educators, support workers, allied health professionals, behaviour support practitioners, counsellors, and anyone supporting a child or young person who may be experiencing sensory differences or sensory-related challenges. It is suitable for those wanting to better understand the possible sensory factors that may be influencing behaviour, emotions, participation, communication, and regulation. The snapshot provides a simple framework for exploring what may be happening beneath the surface and encourages a curious, supportive, and neurodiversity-affirming approach. No prior knowledge of sensory processing is required, making this resource accessible for both families and professionals seeking practical insights into behaviour and sensory experiences. This training is recognised as equivalent to 2 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) / Professional Development (PD). Participants are encouraged to retain this certificate as evidence of their ongoing professional learning and development. Participants receive a certificate on completion.
