About

Assessment is not about finding fault or assigning labels. Instead, it is about building a deeper understanding of the individual's experiences, identifying what may be influencing behaviour, and using this information to guide effective and supportive interventions. Evidence-based assessments may include observations, interviews, questionnaires, data collection, functional assessment processes, and other tools that help practitioners, educators, and families make informed decisions. High-quality assessment helps ensure that supports are individualised, meaningful, and responsive to the person's unique circumstances and goals. This snapshot encourages us to move beyond assumptions and explore how evidence-based assessment can strengthen understanding, guide decision-making, and support positive outcomes for children and young people. By gathering information thoughtfully and systematically, we can develop a clearer picture of what is happening beneath the surface and identify strategies that are more likely to be effective. Who Is This Resource For? This resource is designed for parents, caregivers, educators, support workers, allied health professionals, behaviour support practitioners, counsellors, and anyone supporting a child or young person who may be experiencing sensory differences or sensory-related challenges. No prior knowledge of sensory processing is required, making this resource accessible for both families and professionals seeking practical insights into behaviour and sensory experiences. Do I receive a certificate? This training is recognised as equivalent to 2 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) / Professional Development (PD). Participants are encouraged to retain this certificate as evidence of their ongoing professional learning and development. Participants receive a certificate on completion.
