Play Therapy - The Therapeutic Relationship - Snaphot

About

The therapeutic relationship is not focused on fixing, correcting, or controlling behaviour. Instead, it focuses on connection, understanding, and creating the conditions that support emotional growth, self-expression, resilience, and healing. Research consistently highlights the importance of the therapeutic relationship as a key factor in positive outcomes across many forms of therapy, including play therapy. This snapshot explores the role of the therapeutic relationship in play therapy and why connection, trust, emotional safety, and acceptance are central to supporting children's emotional wellbeing and development. Who Is This Resource For? This resource is designed for parents, caregivers, educators, support workers, allied health professionals, behaviour support practitioners, counsellors, and anyone supporting a child or young person who may be experiencing sensory differences or sensory-related challenges. No prior knowledge of sensory processing is required, making this resource accessible for both families and professionals seeking practical insights into behaviour and sensory experiences. Do I receive a certificate? This training is recognised as equivalent to 2 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) / Professional Development (PD). Participants are encouraged to retain this certificate as evidence of their ongoing professional learning and development. Participants receive a certificate on completion.
